David, Part 5

Blessings vs. Evil & Sin

We’re just about ready to start our 5th Lesson on the Bible Hero David….

But Before WE Do:
We’re here to tell you that if you have never BELIEVED that Jesus Christ died for your sins,
Now is the time for you to tell God the Father that you BELIEVE Jesus died for your sins.
That’s all you need to do!!

BELIEVE it in FAITH that Jesus Christ died on the cross for your sins
and you will have
ETERNAL LIFE!!!

If you have done that, I now welcome you to the Eternal Royal Family of God!!

Today we’re going to learn more about David.
Then we have a
Bible Quiz and Fun Activities for you to do!

But before you begin, remember to rebound (name your known sins to God the Father)
so the Holy Spirit can teach you all there is to know of God’s Word in this lesson.

1 John 1:9 says, “If we confess our sins, He (God the Father) is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

1 Samuel 25:2-42

In the story of David, Abigail and Nabal, we are going to learn that evil never pays.  Evil like jealousy corrupts our souls and causes people to sin in all three areas of  sinning.

What are the (3) areas that we sin in?

An evil thought like (anger, fear, jealousy),

becomes an evil word (speech) and then culminates

(or results in),

an evil action (something you do)!

Does this sound familiar?

In our last lesson we learned about chain sinning!

See the chain of sins here too !!!

So we can sin in three different ways:

1)      thought (what we think) which leads to,

2)      speaking badly about someone

(putting someone down, maligning or gossiping),

3)      and then that thought grows and grows within our minds and  we MIGHT act upon it in a bad way by

doing something mean to someone

(hurting someone through an overt action).

These sins all come from our Old Sin Nature (O.S.N.)

which everyone has.

God’s Word tells us these sins are forgiven because Christ died on the cross for our sins and the sins of the world,

but we can get DISCIPLINED for them if we do not:

Repent/rebound/change our thinking!!!

So what do we do?

We (1John 1:9) it!!!!  … Name our known sins to God the Father & move on with the (Holy Spirit) leading us and guiding us while we rely on Him

and try to do the best we can.

When we do rebound and move on, God blesses us and He is glorified as we will see in our story of

David, Nabal and Abigail.

When we do not rebound and continue

to remain in an evil state,

we see that God disciplines us.

Now in our story we will see how David was blessed by God with a wonderful new wife who was very beautiful & smart because he didn’t do anything bad to Nabal even though Nabal spoke badly of him.

But we will also see how Nabal who was evil was disciplined by God and eventually lost his life

because he was such an evil man.

In our story, we will see how David’s life changed, and he took on a wife.

And the story goes like this……

David lived near a wealthy man named Nabal who was harsh and evil. He was very rich; he had 3-thousand sheep, and 1-thousand goats.  He also had a wife, named Abigail.  Abigail was very beautiful, and very smart.  Nabal, unfortunately was an evil man in his dealings, and a harsh man .

1 Samuel 25:2-3

Nabal had been away on business.

He had shepherd’s who were watching his sheep,

David and his men made sure they did not insult

Nabal’s shepard’s,

and that they watched over them.

1 Samuel 25: 4-7.

When Nabal came home, David sent some of his servants to visit Nabal with a message:  It said “Greetings to you and your household from our master David.”  David’s servants told Nabal, “When your men were tending their flocks near our master, he ensured that neither they nor the animals suffered in any way.  Therefore, he humbly asks that you give us some provisions from your stores.”

1 Samuel 25:8-9

Well, Nabal did not like this, and became angry.

“Who is this David?”

“Who does he think I am that I should hand out the food

I have prepared for my own workers to a stranger?”

Nabal did not know David, and Nabal was not thankful for what David had done for him.

1 Samuel 25:10-11

When the message got back to David, as to Nabal’s thoughts, David himself was angry.  He then ordered his men to arm themselves, and there were about 400 men who went with David to teach Nabal a lesson!

1Samuel 25: 12-13

One of Nabal’s servant’s heard about this, and told Abigail how Nabal had scorned (put down, maligned, spoke badly of, insulted) David and why.”

1 Samuel 25:14

The servant went on to tell Abigail that David had sent some of his men to our master (Nabal) asking for food, and he insulted him.  The servant then told Abagail how David had been kind to them.  The servant became concerned and told Abigail ,”Now David is going to punish us all for Nabal’s arrogence.”  1 Samuel 25:15-17

Abagail hurried and gathered 200 loaves of bread, and some wine, raisins, grain and figs. She prepared this for David.  She wanted to see David before he approached their home and attacked her husband.

1 Samuel 25:18-19

When she saw him, she said, “Kind sir”,

“Please don’t listen to what Nabal said.

Had I met your men, I would have treated them

as well as you treated our men.”

Abagail then prayed in the name of the Lord,

and showed David, she was a believer, praising God.

She told them of the food she brought for them.

She told David of Nabal’s foolish ways,

and spoke of the mercy of God,

asking David to spare Nabal, and his home.

1 Samuel 25:20-31

David was very impressed with this wise woman, Abigail.  He could see she was a servant of God.

He told her it was very good that she met him.

He told her to go home and all would be o.k. because of her.  He thanked her and returned to camp.

1 Samuel 25:32-35

When Abagail told Nabal about what happened,

and what was going to happen, he was very shocked.

His heart died, and he was as cold as stone.

As it turns out, about 10 days later,

the Lord struck Nabal, and he died.

1 Samuel 25:36-38

When David had heard of Nabal’s death,

he said, “Blessed be the Lord”

He had sent a wise woman, to keep me from attacking.

1 Samuel 25:39

He then sent servants to ask Abagail to marry him.

She agreed and left her old home to become David’s wife.

1Samuel 25: 40-42.

David was blessed with a wife,

because he obeyed God and did God’s will !!!
