PROSPERITY
1. EIRENE = a state of national tranquility. This is exemption from the rage and havoc of
war.
ACTS 12:20, “Now he was very angry with
the people of Tyre and Sidon; and with one accord they came to him, and having
won over Blastus the king’s chamberlain, they were asking him for peace,
because their country was fed by the king’s country.”
ACTS 24:2, “And after Paul had been
summoned, Tertullus began to accuse him, saying to the governor, ‘Since
we have through you attained much peace, and since by your providence reforms
are being carried out for this nation’.”
2. Peace between individual, i.e., harmony, prosperity,
tranquility.
EPH 4:1-3, “I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord,
entreat you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling with which you have been
called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, showing forbearance to
one another in love, being diligent to preserve the unity of the Spirit in the
bond of peace.”
ACT 7:26, “And on the following day he
appeared to them as they were fighting together, and he tried to reconcile them
in peace, saying, ‘Men, you are brethren, why do you injure one another?’.”
3. Security, safety, prosperity. Peace and harmony make and keep things safe
and prosperous,
PHI 4:7, “And the peace of God, which
surpasses all comprehension, shall guard your hearts and your minds in Christ
Jesus.”
2PE 1:2-8, “Grace and peace be multiplied
to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord; seeing that His divine
power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through
the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence. For by these He has granted to us His
precious and magnificent promises, in order that by them you might become
partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in
the world by lust. Now for this very
reason also, applying all diligence, in your faith supply moral excellence, and
in your moral excellence, knowledge; and in your knowledge,
self-control, and in your self-control, perseverance, and in your perseverance,
godliness; and in your godliness, brotherly kindness, and in your
brotherly kindness, love. For if these qualities
are yours and are increasing, they render you neither useless nor unfruitful in
the true knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
4. Of the Messiah’s peace – The way that leads to peace
(salvation).
EPH 2:14-15, “For He Himself is our
peace, who made both groups into one, and broke down the barrier of the
dividing wall, by abolishing in His flesh the enmity, which is the Law
of commandments contained in ordinances, that in Himself He might make
the tow into one new man, thus establishing peace.”
5. Of Christianity – The tranquil state of a soul
assured of its salvation through Christ and so fearing nothing from God. We’re content with our earthly lot in
whatever it is or may be.
ACT 9:31, “So the church throughout all
Judea and Galilee and Samaria enjoyed peace, being built up; and, going on in
the fear of the Lord and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit, it continued to
increase.”
ROM
15:33, “Now the God of peace be with you all.
Amen.”
6. The blessed state of righteous men after death. We receive imputed righteousness at the
moment of salvation.
1TH 5:23, “Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you
entirely; and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved complete, without
blame at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
This all comes from the one verse:
ROM 14:19, “So then let us pursue the
things which make for peace and the building up of one another.”
